A new era for video games in Switzerland and Italy begins

Project Tear is the video game under development at Virsion, an ambitious project born to redefine video game development in Italy and Switzerland.

Our vision is to create an AA Action RPG capable of offering immersive and high-quality experiences, engaging professionals and young talents in the gaming industry in a real, concrete, and innovative project.

With Project Tear, we aim to demonstrate that it is possible to build a competitive video game at an international level without having to emigrate, offering a genuine opportunity to those working or studying in gaming, design, and development.

The game is currently in development. Assets and other content should be considered temporary.

A world divided by a visible and an invisible war

Project Tear is a third-person action RPG developed in Unreal Engine 5, set in an ancient, living, and deeply layered epic fantasy world.

In a universe torn by a war fought on two fronts — terrestrial and spiritual — the player leads a party of unique characters in a narrative rich with twists, mysteries, and meaningful decisions. The combat system is designed to offer responsiveness, impact, and challenge, with mechanics that reward precision, timing management, and positioning. At the same time, it introduces a strong strategic component: dynamic character switching, management of elemental weaknesses, and tactical synergies between skills and items.

The entire game is built around a strong narrative component: a deep plot, rich with surprises, revealed through main quests with cinematic impact and side missions told both directly and through environmental storytelling. The world is designed as an interconnected open-map, rich in cultures, factions, and secrets to discover. Each area tells a part of a troubled past that directly affects the present and the fate of the characters.

Engine and technologies

Project Tear is developed with the latest version of Unreal Engine 5, the industry-leading graphics engine, synonymous with visual quality, technical fidelity, and expressive power. The project builds on the engine's most recent technologies, including:

  • motion-matched locomotion and traversal, driven by Unreal Engine's Pose Search and Motion Warping,
  • a data-driven combat framework built on the Gameplay Ability System,
  • StateTree-based AI with perception-driven behaviors for enemies and companions,
  • MetaHuman characters and real-time Niagara visual effects,
  • scalable rendering with support for the latest upscaling technologies (DLSS, FSR).
